Spring is in the air, and so are Magpies. But never fear, Magpies don’t seem to be upset by recumbents, and a safety flag really does seem to be a good thing when an unenlightened Magpie takes interest.

GreenSpeed Trikes
Along with several other independent recumbent dealers, we had meetings with GreenSpeed USA about supply of GS trikes to Australia. Long story short, we are in a position to offer the full range of GreenSpeed trikes again. This will be on a special order basis and we will quote each sale individually, as freight prices and special offers change over time. The GreenSpeed tab on our Trikes page is back up on our website with indicative pricing for reference.
New colours for the Magnum SD are Speed Green, and Candy Corn Orange.

Performer Trikes
Recent information from Performer is the development of a full suspension folding trike. Full details are yet to be released but the Performer Cycles Facebook page has some tantalizing pics!

ICE Trikes
At the recent SPEZI (special cycles) show in Europe earlier this year, ICE unveiled a new model using the innovative PERS chainless drive system from Cixi (France). This system does away with the chain and all its associated bits and pieces like idlers, chainrings, shifters and derailleurs etc and substitutes a pedal driven generator, hub motor, battery, and I imagine some very fancy computing to create a drive that feels and responds very much like the better mid-drive e-assist installations.
ICE expect to be releasing trikes with this drive system late this year and chainless trikes will feature:
- Chainless pedaling system, drive-train free operation
- No gear shifting, smooth natural resistance adapts to your ride
- Clean, maintenance-free cycling
- Full reverse pedalling – you can pedal backwards!
- Regenerative braking to increase battery range
- 5 Different power assist modes
- 70mn torque and 700wh battery
- Anti-theft system and PERS connectivity services

Available on ICE Adventure, HD and Sprint X Tour initially.
We have legal hurdles to cover before these can be available in Australia, but we are keen to hear from people interested in this new technology!
Laid Back Bike Report did a long segment on Cixi and PERS, including the thoughts of ICE, Hase, and Azub trike representatives. Watch the report here: Recumbent Trikes Unchained-The CIXI E-Assist System Changes Everything!
Also unveiled at Spezi was a small ICE trike, the Pixel. Based on the Sprint X, the Pixel has 20” wheels all round, suits riders from 4”6” (137cm), and includes short cranks and the FF bracket. Most ICE options and accessories are available to suit. Details are not up on the ICE web site yet, but we anticipate it will be available late 2025.

DT Recumbents Trikes

We have a name for our small trike—D’lite — and the first build is available now for test rides. The major update from the initial version is the change to a 20” (406) size rear wheel, and revised seat shape. A rear mudguard, mirror, and headrest are standard inclusions.
The full specifications of the demonstrator build can with notations identifying changeable components can be found here. The D’lite is also now up on our Trikes web page!

Look out for a ride report from Mrs DT Recumbent’s in the coming weeks……
